Unknown Duo-Art Roll Is Possibly By Cyril Scott
By Dario Albarracin

Hi all, I have a MIDI file scanned from a player piano roll
(from the Terry Smythe collection) that appears to be mislabeled.

The filename says "Passacaglia_6257D". Number 6257D in the Duo-Art
catalog corresponds to Cyril Scott's Passacaglia (from his Pastoral
Suite), but that's not a match for what's actually on this roll.

My guess is the physical roll got mixed up with a different box at
some point. The internal MIDI metadata [in the file header] just
says "untitled."

A few technical details:

Tempo: approx. 100 BPM, 4/4 time
Length: approx. 4:30 (2,843 notes total)

I know this is a long shot, but any leads, even a guess at the composer,
publisher, or roll company, would be hugely appreciated. I can share
the MIDI file directly, if that would help with identification.

Thanks in advance!

Dario Albarracin

[ The Duo-Art roll catalog compiled by Charles Davis Smith says:
[ D-A 6257(9), PASSACAGLIA fr "Pastoral Suite", no. 5 (by Cyril Scott)
[ played by Reuben Davies (3/20). The performance of the MIDI file
[ doesn't match the sheet music I could find of "Pastoral Suite",
[ although it certainly sounds like a Cyril Scott composition.
