I just received an email saying that G. Perlee Amsterdam is for sale.
I Googled "G. Perlee Amsterdam for sale" and got the following:
> Authentic items from the historic G. Perlee Amsterdam organ
workshop are being liquidated.
> The entire 150-year collection "including historic organs,
workshop machinery, archives, and family memorabilia" will be
sold at a public auction on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
> Here are the key details for the upcoming sale:
> Auction Date: Saturday, September 26, 2026
> Auction Location: Dutch Auction Company in Tilburg, Netherlands
> Viewing Dates: September 18 & 19, 2026, at the historic
G. Perlee Workshop in Amsterdam
> Bidding Options: Live in the room in Tilburg or online
worldwide through the Dutch Auction Company Bidding Platform
> Catalogue Release: The complete auction catalogue will be
available online at the end of August.
It was rather clear when I visited the shop about a decade ago that the
family did not have the skills needed to reform as a museum operation.
It would have required restructuring as a not-for-profit to gain
qualification for grants, etc. It also would have meant meeting things
like health and safety requirements.
Museum management is a specialized profession, generally requiring an
academic education. Hopefully a non-profit organization will be formed
to buy the entire collection and open the shop as a museum in Amsterdam.
