Regarding Allen Ford's question about removing PVC-e glue [260921
MMDigest], I have found that an application of acetone turns PVC-e
into a slimy goo that can be scraped off whatever surface it's on.

Two applications each followed by scraping may be necessary. After
the acetone has evaporated, a light sanding should remove any final
traces of the glue.

Metal valve seat plates that have been glued in place with PVC-e
can typically be removed by heating them with a heat gun for a few
seconds then pulling gently on the valve button. The metal plates
can then be placed in a jar of acetone for a couple hours to remove
any traces of glue on them.
