Sound Synthesis via Physical Modeling
By Paul Johnson

The latest 1/6/98 issue of PC Magazine has a good, though technical,
article on sound reproduction through PCs. What I found most
interesting was the discussion on ways to synthesize sound and the new
physical modeling approach. This new method works to recreate the
acoustic forces in the actual instrument, versus using recordings of
the instruments as accomplished in wave table synthesis.

You may also be able to view the article at the PC Magazine web site at
www.pcmag.com.

[ I hope we can discuss this at the MMD Emulation Forum, and also have
[ a few not-too-technical articles in the Digest about synthesizing the
[ sounds of the crank organs and band organs. -- Robbie
