Audio-to-MIDI Conversion
By Ellsworth Johnson

Folks, what I had in mind in my recent post on this subject was this:

I have reel-to-reel tape recordings I made back in the 1960s of many of
the best reproducing pianos that went through my hands for restoration
and resale. For example, I have some tape of Welte Licensee rolls
played on a Baldwin Welte Licensee grand reproducer. When I listen to
them after all these years, they sound the best to me of all the
recordings I made of Ampico and Duo-Art.

These audio tapes I was wanting to make into MIDI files. I think
I may have figured out a way to do it. I will later report if it is
successful and just what I did. For starters I have a freebie program
I downloaded a year or two ago for making music into MP3, called Music
Master. It appears to have a way therein to make WAV files which would
be a step on the way to make audio into MIDI. The source, of course,
has to be solo instruments, like the piano, for example. I no longer
possess any of the piano rolls.
