Re: Optical Scanner / PhotoCD Format
By Claus Kucher

To clear some doubtness about the Kodak-PCD-format (PhotoCD) here is a short information:

Introduced in the beginning of the 90's it is a multisession WORM-disc (write once, read many) and can hold about 100 images in 5 different resolutions in a compressed format.

  height width 2nd size looks
in pixel name name in MB like
------------ ------- -------- ----- ----------
128 x 192 base/16 Wallet 0.1
256 x 384 base/4 Snapshot 0.5 thumbnail
512 x 768 base Standard 1.5 TV
1024 x 1536 base*4 Large 5 HDTV (high definition TV)
2048 x 3072 base*16 Poster 20 photo quality

[ Claus,
[ Thanks very much for providing this invormation. I use a
[ "Large" image I downloaded from Kodak's Web site as my
[ background when running Windows. It was about 5 meg before
[ I converted it to a .BMP (Windows isn't very smart). Its
[ a scene from Yosemite. For those of you with Web Browsers:
