Shakespeare wrote something like, "What's in a name? A rose, by any
other name, would smell as sweet." (Or my paraphrase: "A nose, by any
other name, would still _smell_ !")
Craig Brougher supports the name "Automatic Music Digest (AMD)", but
AMD is already the acronym for "Advanced Micro Devices", as Walter
Tenton noted.
I agree with "Digest" in the name, because the end-product is a
_compendium_ of news and discussion. I deplore "Mailing List"; this
term indicates only that something (a nostrum, maybe?!) is mailed to a
list of recipients.
The search-phrase "Mechanical Music" is very likely to be used by a
researcher who hasn't heard of "Automatic Music", which is a term
unique to English speaking lands.
I nominate "Mechanical Music Digest (MMD)" as a good name for Jody's
publication.
Walter: wouldn't the German be "Mechanisches Musik-Digest"? Same
acronym!
