Ampico Grand Tubing Chart
By Bob and Sonja Lemon

Ampico rebuilders and owners,

We have discovered that there is a discrepancy in the Model A tubing chart. When the cutout block tubes are turned to the rear of the piano, as shown, 3T and 3B should be reversed. The reason: 3B is for the Sustain pedal and is always left in the circuit. It does not have a cutout pouch. 3T, being used for the soft or hammer rail, has a cutoff pouch and is normally closed when the Ampico On/Off switch is in the Off position.

When the factory-assembled block faces the front of the piano, the unblocked 3B port operates in line with the other expression ports. When the unit is turned around (tubes facing back of piano) the 3B and 3T swap ends in relation to the tracker bar.

If tubed according to the chart, there will be no automatic sustain when playing 88-note rolls,
