Solenoid Reliability

Today's solenoids seem to be very reliable, as Larry Fisher stated, and they are quite forgiving. In addition, if a little extra care is taken to assure the solenoid travel is adjusted so that it is close to the action travel distance at the solenoid contact point, then the reproduction is a good representation of the human touch.
Modern solenoid driver circuitry usually includes logic to recognize if a note is being held too long, so the solenoid is turned off before it overheats and fails. Most of the "fried" solenoids I'm aware of have been caused by failure of that protection circuitry, not the solenoid itself.
