Theatre Organs in San Francisco
By Paul Johnson

Damon Atchison asked about organs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Having
lived in and near the Bay Area for a number of years, I can recommend a
few theatre organs. You'll probably have to call the theatres to check
on any possible performances.

  Castro Theatre, San Francisco

It seemed they usually gave a concert prior to the movie at least on
Friday and Saturday nights.

Stanford Theatre, Menlo Park (on the peninsula)

Recently restored with funds donated by David Packard (of Hewlett-Packard
Co. fame), this is a wonderful theatre. Again, it seemed Friday and
Saturday were the nights to hear the organ. They also usually have a
nice run of classic movies.

Paramount Theatre, Oakland (East Bay, across the Bay Bridge)

One of the finest examples of Art Deco picture palaces. Give them
a call regarding any possible concerts.

I'm probably missing some but these were the ones I had the privilege
to hear.
