I have used egg white as described by Bernt Damm for years.  It does
not make the pouches stiff and, with some of our rebuilds coming back
after twenty five years, there seems to be no "downside" to its use.

It works _very_ well for sealing the accordion pneumatics on Duo-Arts
as well.
