Interesting Musical Venues in Hawaii
By John McClure

If anyone happens to visit Hilo, on the Big Island of Hawaii, there are
several interesting sights. The Palace Theatre, circa 1925, has a
2-manual Wurlitzer theatre organ under restoration. It is a lovely
theatre with period deco/tropical interior. I attended a showing of
"The Stowaway" with Harold Lloyd (1929), accompanied by a very talented
local organist. Very funny and entertaining.

Two blocks up the street the Lyman Museum, an 1830s missionary house,
has its original melodeon and music box from the 1860's, both reported
to work. All this and a million orchids, too... Sounds like paradise.

Regards, John McClure
