Composer Werner R. Heymann
By Hans van Oost

Dear MMD, Werner Richard Heymann was a famous German composer of songs
like "das ist der Liebe der Matrosen", "Dass muss ein Stueck vom Himmel
sein" and many other great hits from the nineteen-thirties. Nearly all
of these songs were from films; he was musical director of the Berlin
UFA company from 1928 till 1933. After the Nazi party took over power
in 1933 he moved to Paris and later to the USA, where he worked in
Hollywood till 1961. Then he returned to Germany.

Is there anybody amongst us who can give me more information about his
American period?
