Jon Guy raises the interesting question about developing programs for
youth to interest them in mechanical music.  I share his concerns.

My wife, Marcia, and I try to stimulate a bit of interest when we go
to band organ and monkey organ rallies.  We allow children to crank
our monkey organ and then give them an "organ grinder's" certificate.
It's a small step, but the children are fascinated by both the monkey
organ and our small band organ.  Likewise, whenever we can, we have
kids from our church over and let them pump the player piano.  Again,
they are fascinated.

What has always puzzled us is the timing of MBSI national meets.
They often are at a time of the year (September) that makes it
difficult for families with children to attend because of the school
schedule. (It also makes it tough for teachers, including me, to get
to them in most years.)

Hopefully, as future national events are planned, some thought will be
given to scheduling them at a time when children could attend and then,
have some special sessions that could be "hands on" directed to the
youth.

Just a thought and a suggestion.
