Lauter Piano with Staib-Abendschein Piano Action
By Al Pebworth

Hello fellow MMD'ers, Now that we have a Lauter-Humana thread going,
I would be interested in knowing how many fellow restorers have
restored, or even seen, a Lauter player with the Staib-Abendschein
piano action.

The one that I am finishing at the present had this action, and it was
falling apart. After many hours of deliberation, I just converted the
piano action to a normal action. I considered having the necessary
parts fabricated, but without any knowledge of how they would hold up
in 20 years, decided against that route.

The flat spring that was used in the action provided enough force to
break the wood in the area where the two parts are connected with a
center pin. If there is any interest, I will provide some pictures
of complete and broken action parts. John Tuttle told me that he had
never seen a Lauter with this piano action. Has anyone else?

For those who have not seen the "Mastertouch" Staib-Abendschein action,
you can go to the MMD gallery of pictures and view the ad submitted by
Dean Randall. That address is:
