The Salvation Army & Mechanical Music
By Mark Williamson

Can anyone tell me anything about The Salvation Army in connection with
mechanical music? I am a Salvationist and come from a Salvationist
family. My grandparents had a Lagonda(?) player piano which my
parents acquired for me to take lessons on about 20 years ago.
Unfortunately they followed the advice of a piano tuner and had the
player action removed.

About 18 months ago I purchased myself an 88-note player piano.
I got excited when my mother said she thought that there were a couple
of boxes of rolls in the back bedroom at my grandparent's house, but
I discovered that my grandmother gave them away to an acquaintance
about 10 years ago. :(

Anyway, the point I am trying to make is that I seem to have a vague
recollection of some "Army" rolls, but I could be mistaken. Does anyone
know if 88-note piano rolls of Salvation Army music were ever made, and
if so by whom. I also intend to follow this up with The Salvation Army
Heritage Centre.
