Gluing Pipe Stoppers

When fitting pipe stoppers, I always make it a policy _never_ to
glue the leather to the sides of the stopper, only to the bottom.
The reason for this will become evident if you need to adjust the
size of the stopper.

If the pipe sides shrink more than the stopper over time, you will
need to shave the stopper down a fraction; and if the stopper shrinks
more than the pipe sides, it will need to be packed out with thin
card. Leaving the sides unglued makes this job easy, but if it's
glued ... ugh!
