Modern Music on Player Rolls
By Dean T. Smith

Hello all, In response to Don Teach's MMD posting about wanting
to know if "modern" music would be bought. I use "A" rolls on my
calliope and would love to have ten-tune rolls of more up-to-date
music. I am asked all the time for it. I play from the keyboard,
and take requests, but when I have the calliope set up at a fair
or festival for 8 or more hours, it is difficult to play that long,
even with breaks.

I agree with the types of music that Ray Finch suggested and would
especially love to have more up-to-date Christmas music. Jingle Bell
Rock, Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, etc. and others, would be
wonderful.

When I am in a Christmas parade, I always play from the keyboard, but
in December it can make for very cold fingers in a long parade. I play
with white cotton gloves on with small heat packs in the palms. This
helps but the fingers still get very cold. I keep a Christmas roll
keyed-up in case I need to switch to it.

I have four Christmas rolls but none of them is really a good sample of
what kids want to hear. After all, Christmas is generally about kids
anyway.

If any one has a complete list of "A" rolls of holiday music I would
love to see it.

If any one would like to see a picture of "Windsongs", my calliope
after I redecorated it after the event of September 11th, email me at
deantsmith@altavista.com and I will email you back.

Thanks all, Dean Smith
