Player Pianos Converted to Play Coinola "O" Rolls
By Don Teach

Coinola Pianos were the collector's favorite machines in the 1960s.
They have good music, and plenty of the music was available in the
'seventies.

There were a lot of player pianos converted to play the Coinola Style
"O" roll during that time. Some of these pianos just did not do
justice to the original Coinola instrument and have hurt the reputation
of the original Coinola and the Style "O" roll. Personally I have
never heard a converted player piano that sounds as good as an original
Coinola.

These are several factors that were overlooked by most builders of the
player piano conversions. The drums are not loud in an original Coinola.
The overall sound of an original Coinola is well balanced with no one
instrument sounding louder than the rest of the instruments. Coinola
used small supply lines to the drums. Coinola also used a separate
block to house the bleeds for the drums and other accessory parts so
that they could be cleaned easily.
