Tramways, Trains & Mechanical Music Enthusiasts
By Christofer Noering

Hello! There certainly are some similarities between driving
Stockholm's older-type tramway car (originally built in 1944 and still
going strong) and a player piano.

That is, with the right hand you operate the "accelerator/decelerator";
with the left hand you operate the parking brake (newcomers usually
over-use this one); with left foot you operate the sanding apparatus
_and_ the magnetic brake; the right foot you rest on the security
pedal / emergency brake.

See what I mean? In addition to this, you have the buttons "S" and "B"
which, properly used, may add some expression to your driving!

The newer type of tramway (which I also have the pleasure to drive
daily) simply has a "joystick" -- the electronic equipment does the
rest!

Best regards
