Great Dorset Steam Fair
By Stephen Simpson

Hi There, I have been attending the Dorset Show regularly since 1974,
so can offer a few hints.

Firstly, the show is spread over several very large fields, be prepared
to do a lot of walking. You can't see the show in one day, so try and
go for at least three days. There are car parks next the showground,
try and get there early in the day, or you may have a long walk to get
to the pay-gate.

The show goes on well into the night, there is food and drink on the
site, reasonably priced, and to all tastes, but mainly hamburgers and
the like. The ground can be either very dusty, or if it rains, very
muddy. Be prepared.

For B&B, try Salisbury, or Bournemouth, or Weymouth; the local English
Tourist Offices can help. It's not likely you will get B&B nearer the
site this late before the show.

Finally, be prepared for an experience of a lifetime, in many ways.
It can be a great show, but hard work to see it all.

Maybe I'll see you there!
