Removing Old Rubber From Tracker Bar
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, Herb Ziegler asked about a method for removing 'corroded'
tubing from a trackerbar. Hmmm; the only corroded tubing I've ever
encountered was vinyl (or clear) tubing. All rubber or neoprene
tubing just gets stiff or rock hard.

Having retubed countless trackerbars, and knowing that it is often
an intimidating job for a novice, I put together a few web pages about
retubing some years ago. They are located at
http://www.player-care.com/tracker.html

Trackerbars that have been re-tubed with vinyl are definitely harder
to clean and prepare because the tubing is greasy and really stuck
to the brass nipples. At the suggestion of one customer who had
a problem removing old tubing, I tried using a heat gun to soften and
expand the tubing. The technique did work.

I would suggest that the most important thing to do before attempting
to remove trackerbar tubing is to spread the nipples (with the attached
tubing) on the trackerbar so that they no longer touch each other.
This technique is explained in the above mentioned web page.

Musically,
