Sealing Windways & Attaching Pneumatics
By Bill Mackin

I'm in the middle of my second player rebuild, with a Standard action.
On my first one (a Cable Euphona), I remember that I placed a thin
leather gasket (pouch leather) between each pneumatic and the deck
board, to make future removal easier. I also recall that I never
found any information as to whether one should seal the deck board
with shellac before putting the gasketed pneumatic on, so I did half
with shellac, and the other half without. So far, after three years
or so, none have come loose.

So, do the rest of you seal the deck board with shellac before gluing
the pneumatic on? Does it make any difference? I figured it would
seal the deck board, thus helping prevent slow leaks. How about
whether you seal the pneumatic boards completely before gluing the
hinge material? Does shellac make the hide-glue bond weaker?

Thank you all for the benefit of your experience (in advance).
