Learning Musical Box Comb Repair and Tuning
By Blake Petersen

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

My name is Blake. My wife and I own and operate "Clock & Instrument
Repair Inc." in Northern Utah. We are second generation owners with
many years of total experience and have restored many clocks, music
boxes, phonographs, and a variety of other antiques.

I have a 1 and 1/2 comb Polyphon music box in for repair. In addition
to a basic overhaul and cabinet work it needs one tooth replaced.
I have never attempted to replace and tune a tooth but would like to
add this skill to our service. Can you offer any suggestions of where
I can learn about comb repair and tuning?

Here is what I have already discovered:

1. MMD archives, where I have read submissions about combs, and tuning.
2. The Watch & Clockmakers Handbook, a Dictionary & Guide, by F.J.
Britten. One of the MMD submissions recommends this book.
3. Several web pages that claim to repair combs.

Thanks
Blake Petersen
