Musical Instrument Tuning Software Programs
By Jan Kijlstra

In the MMD of 26-02-2006 Bill Chapman asked:

My opinion (as a former piano tech): if you are able to tune using your
ears a tuning program is not needed nor very helpful.

For training, such a program may be a "helping hand", and using such
a program for tuning a piano may be possible. But tuning an organ,
especially a bigger one in a church, is done inside the instrument,
with very little space. So there might be a problem where to put your
(portable) PC.

Apart from that: it's not the tuning alone, the intonation has to be
done by ear as well, and a tuning program does not do that.
