Stripped Screw Holes in Wood
By Jon Page

Leather is my, and many other piano techs', preferred shimming material
for screws, especially on Steinway tubular action rails. Gluing it in
makes it as permanent as the wood itself. Swabbing the holes with CA
glue has its place, but leather is #1.
