The Big "T" in "WurliTzer"
By Robbie Rhodes

"WurliTzer" with the big "T" is a logotype and trademark. It appears
on Wurlitzer music roll labels made as early as the Cincinnati
"Rolla Artis" piano rolls, as well as the labels of PianOrchestra
rolls made in North Tonawanda. I don't know when it was introduced
in advertisements.

The well-known logotype trademark is now owned by the Gibson
Corporation and it appears on the jukeboxes manufactured in Germany
by Deutsche Wurlitzer GmbH.

The American company name originally was The Rudolph Wurlitzer Company;
in 1957 the corporate name was changed to the Wurlitzer Company. The
big "T" never appeared in the context of the corporate name.
