Steel for Player Pianos
By Don Teach

The flat steel with rounded edges that was used in player pianos is
still available. It is available in a beautiful smooth finish and made
of the finest 1018 low carbon steel just like it was in the golden age
of the player piano. It is easy to work and bend, and is available in
many sizes.

The correct name for this steel is "flat wire." The cheapest, easiest
place to buy it is from McMaster-Carr, with locations all over the U.S
as well as a website: http://www.mcmaster.com/
If you do not know their name for this steel, don't worry because in the
past five McMaster-Carr catalogs they have listed it in under three
different names but always with the same part number. You can refer to
my past postings on steel for player piano brackets in the MMD.
