Painting Black Raised Lettering on Piano Frame
By Norman Cantrell

Pat Dewitt asked about painting raised lettering on the plate of
the piano. The best solution I have found is to use a "paint pen"
available in my area at "Hobby Lobby". Other hobby and fabric supply
stores should have them. They are like a felt tip pen and come in
a variety of colors and tip widths.

I use the small to medium tip pens in black. A little patience and
time are all it takes to trace the tops of the raised letters. If you
look at very many old plates in pianos you will find quite a bit of
variation regarding the exactness of the original product.

I also use rub-on transfer numbers to replace the serial numbers of
the original piano. These are available at the hobby stores and at
well-equipped architectural/office supply dealers. There are various
sizes and type styles available as well. One manufacturer was
"Letraset." I still have some in stock bought several years ago and am
not sure about current availability of this brand. Hope this helps.
