Educating The Next Generation

This reminds me of the first time I showed my now-husband a music
box. We met on a blind double-date with a mutual friend. Our friend
brought the two guys over to my house a little early, so my girlfriend
and I left them in the living room for a bit while we girls finished
'primping'. I turned on an overture box to help the guys pass the time.

When we came back into the living room, neither guy said a word about
the music. On the date, nothing about the music. Hmmm... I could
foresee this wasn't going to work!

But, my date was a computer geek, so on our second date I showed him
how the music box worked and told him it was one of the first computers.
_That_ got him! He thought about it and said, yes, it _was_ programmed
music.

Over the years he has developed an appreciation for the musical boxes,
telling me which sounds he likes. He'll never be a collector -- he
doesn't like them that much -- but it opened a new world to him and he
understands why I love them so much. He's 45 this year, so I think he
qualifies as one of the 'younger generation!'
