Player Pianos in the Old West Myth
By Peter Vander Veld

> Why do people always say this? What started this myth?

I think the reason why young (and not so young) people confuse the
saloon piano music with a player piano in a western movie is that,
to them, it sounds the same. The pianist in such movies are rarely
shown and, if the youngster has heard a player piano, the "mistake"
would be understandable.
