"Sound of Music" & "My Fair Lady" On YouTube
By John Grant

Ed Gaida mentions in MMD 160225 that he cannot now find some YouTube
performances of selections from "Sound of Music" and "My Fair Lady":

> These rolls were recorded and posted on YouTube but I cannot for
> the life of me find them.

I would hazard the guess that with music that is this well known and
still under copyright, that the postings may have been summarily
deleted as being against the YouTube "Terms of Service". I would be
greatly surprised if a notice to that effect was not issued at the
time of deletion.

If a "mechanical license" for reproduction was obtained at the time
the rolls were produced, it is unlikely that license would have extended
to a YouTube posting as that would have gotten into the topic of
"synchronization rights" which are typically both costly and difficult
to obtain from the copyright holder(s).
