MIDI File Editing Software
By Glenn Thomas

Regarding the question of editing MIDI files via software, I use
Cakewalk Version 9. The "piano roll" view allows for easy editing.

Version 9 is about 10 years old, but better than its earlier versions
and much better for my use than the later versions, including the
ones in recent years known as "Sonar." I especially like the "CAL"
programming feature which allows creating a simple translation program
within Cakewalk which translates one scale easily into another. Later
versions removed this feature.

You can find Cakewalk Version 9 at a good price with an Internet
search, but with little or no manual or embedded help beyond what you
can find on the Internet. AMICA members can also see a screenshot of
this software and learn more about MIDI in the May-June issue of The
AMICA Bulletin, page 26.
