Restored Ampico Piano Without Player
By John Grant

At the end of MMD 160710 was a link to a Craigslist listing for
a "restored Ampico baby grand piano ... beautifully finished to
a satin black sheen", in Irondequoit, New York:

  http://rochester.craigslist.org/msg/5597290311.html

Like so many clue-less Craigslist entries, it was impossible to
determine the piano brand or the Ampico model from the useless
photographs and the sketchy information given. I contacted the
seller through the information available when you click the "Reply"
button in the ad. He insisted that the piano was _not_ a player,
although it certainly appears to me that there is a drawer under
the keybed.

Is there any evidence that the American Piano Company, in the very
last years of production, would have taken unfinished, double-legged
would-have-been Ampico cases and sold them, sans Ampico systems,
but with "The Ampico" decals clearly displayed on the fallboards?
Or does the seller not know what he has?
