My Favorite A-roll Coin Piano
By George Karpel

Following up on Don Teach's posting, I too have a Seeburg nickelodeon
that I bought from Doyle Lane just before he left the Vancouver, B.C.,
area in the mid-seventies. Doyle Lane gave me the option of putting
in a xylophone or violin pipes. I chose the former.

Since the seventies, I have collected 125 "A" rolls. Even though the
Seeburg "E" plays the same style roll, I would have preferred a Seeburg
"E" because of the beautiful coach lamps and stain glass that adorn
the piano. I recently purchased a Recordo player piano that came with
150 Recordo rolls, so now I can go from one piano to the other and hear
over 2000 songs.

In addition to playing piano rolls, I am fortunate to be working for
25 years operating the Burnaby Village Carousel, and with our style
150 rolls that total 85, I am in charge of changing the rolls. At
age seventy, I have no desire to retire from operating the carousel.
The day I cannot jump on and off the moving carousel, that will be
when I will retire!
