Player Roll Lending Library
By Lance Reed

Hello everyone out there in Player Piano Land. I'm wondering how many
of you have come across a roll that was part of a lending library many
decades ago. It seems that when VCR cassettes began to be offered to
the public via rental businesses some 35+ years ago, they stole the
idea from the music houses that existed 75 years previous to their
endeavors!

I thought many of you might get a kick out of taking a look at this
roll apparently from 1914. The label on the roll box says Virtuoso
number 80771 titled "I Want A Girl".

If you enlarge the picture which was taken with the roll laying against
an Ampico upright player, you will be able to see the instructions that
were required of the parties who were members of the rental "club".
It seems as if you had to lay out quite an investment for the year at
the time if you wanted to participate!
