Attaching Synthetic Cloth With Hide Glue
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, I continued testing the glue joints, using hide glue and the
synthetic (nylon-rubber) cloth that's sold at Player-Care. The cloth
is the same thickness (0.0045") as what Herzog sells as their extra
thin cloth.

I'm a little sad to report that it didn't stick quite as well as the
cloth from Herzog. However, whereas the bond at the fabric-wood joint
failed at around 900 grams of weight, with the Herzog cloth, the bond
failed, with the Player-Care cloth, at just over 600 grams of weight.

So, whatever the fabric is that Herzog uses to make their synthetic
cloth, the hide glue sticks to it better than the glue sticks to the
cloth sold at Player-Care.

More testing to follow...

Musically,
