Hello Jim,  These signatures are often a bit of a scrawl, but
this particular roll was 'signed' by the somewhat un-famous William
Schmidt.  He may possibly have been an American pianist but
I am only guessing.

I happen to know this roll; the piece is slightly more extended than
usual with (the pianists?) additions to Liszt's original.  But Schmidt's
performance is not terribly inspiring in comparison to the Hupfeld
version of "Soirees de Vienne No. 6" so I let it go.

S&M (Schüller) rolls were cheaper and the firm engaged much less famous
-- and indeed, less competent -- pianists, except for Josef Weiss who
was one of the best they employed and musically the most interesting.
