I've been using Discord, a chat service mostly used by gamers, to
share CIS image scan files and MIDI files of piano rolls, and I've
also used the site as a file hosting service for anything smaller
than 8 megabytes.

I was considering making an archive server that would serve a similar
purpose to the IAMMP except that there wouldn't have to be any
copyright restrictions and it would make linking files a breeze.

Discord is completely free making it a very good place to do this.
Bringing together the members of the old and now defunct email groups
into a server like this could be feasible as well.
