Restoring 1924 Steck Duo-Art Baby Grand
By Chris Zach
Hi! I would like to join the MMD mailing list. I have a 1924 John
Steck baby grand piano with the full Duo-Art system that has been
in the family for 60+ years and is now in my possession since Dad
passed away.
I actually helped him rebuild this about 50 years ago when I was
8 and I kind of remember a lot of the things that made that happen.
Fortunately Dad was smart and used real hide glue (I recently did up
a batch and that's the smell...) so I can restore this. After all,
it has to be done every 50 years.
I do have some questions that would make this easier, and I would
like to join your mailing list. At this time the dynamics are down
due to the dynamics bellows being ripped (dad did not re-cover these
but did everything else) and there are six notes that do not play,
probably due to failures in the key bellows. So fun will be had...
There do not seem to be many groups outside Facebook (which I really
try not to use); if there is a better list or forum I'd be happy to
go there.
Thanks!
Chris Zach
