Rusted Music Box Cylinder

Sorry to disturb the cybernetic conversation again from Jakarta. I'm quite surprised all my problems here (protection of electronics) got so popular on the line.
So here we are with another request: I bought a music box cylinder mechanism for a few roupia at this flea market in Jakarta that I was mentioning previously (on jalan Surabaya -- worth visiting, closes at 5:00 pm). The cylinder is totally dead rusted (green, actually) and my intention is to transform it into a lamp stand. (What a crime, but that's the only you can do with it.)
Any chemical ideas to get this cylinder shining again? Any miraculous product or method to have this look like a cylinder box again? I'd be happy to try it out...
