Re question about the birdcage with faulty bellows.  I repair or restore
birdcages, birdboxes and whistlers and have had experience with the
plastic bellows assembly.

Until recently, one could get replacement rubbers from La Rose, the clock
supply people, but I understand they are out of stock.  Further, those
rubbers that were available were somewhat stiffer than the original
German ones and slowed the mechanism enough to starve the whistle,
resulting in a low sound level.

I would not repair this type of bellows.  If you do find the rubbers and
want to replace the old ones, you have to take the end section apart from
the assembly in order to install the new rubbers.  When you reassemble
the end section, put glue only on the outside surface so that you do not
get glue in the hole to the whistle.  Also, you don't need the small hole
they recommend in the third rubber.
