Preserving Old Decals Using "CYG"
By Chuck Girard

"Cover Your Glass", or "CYG", is a good product, however it has
a few properties that you need to consider.

  1. It takes a very long time to cure.

  2. The surface the chemical is being applied to must be perfectly
level.

  3. Sometimes even after the product has dried, if another piece of
glass is rested against the "raw" or applied side, the two items will
stick together. It is almost impossible to get them apart without
breaking the glass or damaging the decal.

  4. Very cold weather may cause the dried CYG to shrink. I have heard
of backglasses with CYG applied being shipped in trailers in cold
weather and cracking due to the shrinkage. Although I have not used
the "lite" version, I understand it cures faster and is a little more
forgiving.

However, as I said, CYG is a good product and it will definitely stop
further deterioration and flaking. I just thought you might want to
know about some of its properties. Follow the manufacturer's
instructions and you should be okay!
