Moving a Wide Piano Through a Narrow Door
By Brian Chesters

Hello MMD, I spent several years in the 1980's repairing and selling
player pianos here in the UK and I well remember dismantling an upright
player on the street in London and reassembling it inside the house.
The whole process took under three hours.

I have found that on some players, (after removing the actions) you can
just loosen everything on the keyboard and the keyboard will drop a few
inches and reduce the width. This saves time reconnecting the levers
and pipes.

Finally, on one house I lived in we cut a slot on the door casing about
15 inches high at the keyboard level and secured it back using screws
making it very easy to remove at a later date.
