Troubleshooting Computer & MIDI Problems
By Bill Klinger

I have found that the two most common USB-to-MIDI interface cables
being sold on e-Bay from China are very different. The one with a
treble clef symbol has been a good cable. The one with a sort of
stretched 'C' that says "MIDI USB" is, at best, junk!

I have run tests on both these cables and the second one mentioned
does not work. Often it will load and start but the LED indicators
on the body go out and then the file stops playing. I ran tests on
a number of the second type and none of them worked right.

For a free MIDI file player, you cannot beat the vanBasco's Karaoke
Player. Right clicking in the upper corner on the treble clef symbol
takes you to an extensive setup section of the program.
