Using Telnet for Teleconferencing
By Nelson Denton

Hi there. Over at PipeChat we have a little group that logs into
"anothernet" at channel #pipechat every Monday and Friday at 9:00 p.m.
Eastern Daylight Savings Time, to talk organs and general chit chat.
Perhaps something of the same idea can be posted in the MMD for the
members to log into as well.

Shirley at PipeChat has decided to use the "anothernet" due to the fact
that it is still small enough that it doesn't suffer from severe lag and
splitz the way the big networks do.

There are other programs that allow people to talk in real time and draw
pictures etc. at the same time. I was playing around one night on a irc
channel with one of these programs and I had a lot of fun talking to my
friends. (They kidded me about my Canadian accent, eh?) Those without
microphones were able to type their replies back to me and a voice
synthesizer was able to turn their written words into spoken words.

I haven't got my software loaded to do this at this time, but I think I
got it through twocows. "Durned" if I can remember what the program was
or what network I hooked up to to run this, but it was fun.
