Computer Animated Mechanical Music

Okay, this is strange but clearly done by people who understand and
appreciate music and machinery.  I understand that Animusic is somehow
related to Pixar, the people who make computer-animated movies, and
I imagine that this effort has a lot of computer in it as well.

Bring up http://www.animusic.com/ and click on the picture of the DVDs
they are selling.  Seven or so sample videos (and still shots) of the
productions will appear.  The sixth one, 'Acoustical Curves', is quite
appealing, but all of them are worth seeing.

Someone has, uh, swiped one of the full-length selections from these
DVDs and posted it at Metacafe, which is sort of a repository of
strange videos.  It's about three minutes long and, while not the best
from a mechanical standpoint, is great fun to watch:
