Stripped Screw Holes in Wood

About using leather with brass screws, I have seen reactions between
brass and leather, perhaps due to tanning residue, where waxy green
corrosion ends up eating up both materials.

The brass wool idea really appeals to me.  Thanks to Moe Goldy!
